It is part of “The disasters of war”, a series of 82 engravings that Goya made between 1810 and 1815. The first edition appeared in 1863, published on the initiative of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando. By agreement of the Royal Academy of San Fernando, all the coppers belonging to Goya's engraved Artwork have stopped being stamped to avoid the deterioration of the plates with a routine edition. The stamps of The Disasters detail the cruelties committed in the War of Spanish Independence. In them he eloquently depicts cruelty, hunger and repression. In the composition, he combines the drawing, the light, the movement, the plot and the time in which the scene takes place, which we almost come to perceive as a cinematographic sequence.
