Aloha Bauwens: "Should I Hide or Escape?" (2025)

Attention! Start session for bidding for this lot.

**Hide or Escape** (2025) stems from a personal experience of feeling stuck in a situation where it's unclear whether the solution lies in learning to navigate the environment or abandoning it. The Artwork represents this dilemma through a small architectural frameArtwork of buildings and staircases that ascend and descend, configuring a space where the possibilities for movement multiply, but whose exit remains uncertain. Among the structures appear a few figures, represented by indistinct silhouettes, integrated into this environment of ambiguous orientation. The composition is built upon an isometric grid that organizes the forms and articulates the different perspectives. Black partially delimits the elements, while the contrast between yellow and purple, complementary colors, intensifies the composition and defines a chromatic identity characteristic of the artist. Through her personal pictorial language, the Artwork translates an internal experience into an architectural space where two possibilities confront each other: adapting to the place or finding a way out of it.

  • Aloha Bauwens: "Regret" (2023)

**Aloha Bauwens Hoessen, *Regret*, 2023.** Original and unique acrylic on stretched canvas, 90 × 60 cm, in perfect condition. The Artwork is signed on the side and is presented unframed. The composition begins with a soft yellow background upon which different pictorial elements are arranged, complementing each other. A heart and hands of primitive appearance, inspired by cave-like forms, stand out, rendered with an expressive language and pure colors. Around these elements appear abstract forms in cooler tones that visually connect the main figures. The word *Regret*, integrated into the painting itself in the upper right area, also functions as a plastic element within the composition. The Artwork explores regret as an internal and cyclical process: the tension between acting impulsively and the fear of regret, versus the possibility of not acting and ultimately regretting it anyway. The heart represents the emotional and impulsive dimension, while the hands evoke that which holds us back and the constant awareness that every decision involves risk. The result presents a dialogue between the sentimental and the rational, which can lead, from different paths, to the same feeling. The composition does not adhere to a predetermined proportional system, but rather seeks visual balance through the relationship between shapes, colors, and pictorial weights.

  • Aloha Bauwens: "Summer Nights" (2024)

***Summer Nights*, 2024.** Original and unique Artwork in acrylic on stretched canvas, 90 × 60 cm, in perfect condition. The Artwork is signed on the side and is presented unframed. The composition is structured around a color palette dominated by blue, accompanied by yellow, black, and white. Through a language that oscillates between the figurative and the abstract, the forms intertwine and transform. A chessboard stands out in the lower left, a guitar at the top, and a male figure smoking inside a bubble, one of the most figurative elements of the Artwork. Flat washes coexist with shapes and colors that blend together, generating a dynamic composition of contrasts. The Artwork explores the feelings that arise around a complex relationship and its transformation over time. Begun when the relationship was going through a positive phase and finished when there was no longer a bond between them, the painting captures an emotional evolution. Blue, associated with personal sensations and feelings, structures the composition. The guitar incorporates an intimate reference to their shared history, while chess represents relationships as a game in which each person makes their move in due course, and the consequences are revealed gradually. The title, *Summer Nights*, alludes to the nights when that relationship began to take shape. The composition conveys confusion through the blending and interrelation of its elements, like thoughts that follow one another and intertwine without reaching a concrete solution.

  • Aloha Bauwens: "The frustration of not forgetting" (2025)

**The Frustration of Not Forgetting** (2025) explores the persistence of memories and ideas that involuntarily reappear, even when there is a desire to let go of them. Against a dark purple background, numerous lines of varying shades intertwine and traverse the horizontal composition, forming a visual structure that evokes neural connections and the Artworkings of the brain. From within this netArtwork of lines emerge fine yellow bubbles, accompanied by small dots that seem to detach from them, like a representation of the subconscious bringing back to the surface that which one tries to forget. The contrast between purple and yellow, complementary colors, intensifies the visual tension between the dark frameArtwork and the luminous forms that appear within it. Through a pictorial language characterized by the overlapping of lines, chromatic intensity, and the construction of abstract spaces, the Artwork transforms an internal experience into an image of persistent memory: a flow of thoughts and memories that continues to manifest itself, even when one tries to leave it behind.

  • Aloha Bauwens: "Paralysis of reality" (2023)

The Artwork explores the disconnection between body and mind in situations of great emotional intensity. Starting from an inversion of sleep paralysis, it presents a state in which the body continues to react and move within a situation, while the mind seems incapable of fully processing what is happening at that moment. The composition places two figures embracing in the foreground, their presence drawing attention and representing a moment of particular emotional intensity. Around them, a festive atmosphere is created by figures and light sources that remain in the background, with less defined forms and a more blurred appearance. This difference in visual treatment reflects the experience of memory itself: while the embrace remains sharp and fixed in the memory, everything else happening around it loses definition and relevance. The palette, limited to turquoise and aqua blue tones with small yellow contrasts, reinforces the atmosphere of the scene. The Artwork reflects on how certain moments can acquire such intensity that they seem to stop time and isolate our perception from the rest of reality, leaving a fragmented experience between what we live, what we feel, and what we actually come to process.

  • Aloha Bauwens: "Self-portrait" (2026)

**Self-Portrait** The self-portrait stems from the idea of opening a head and revealing its interior. The figure is fragmented into different sections that unveil a world constructed from thoughts, memories, and elements that shape identity. Each space contains a mixture of objects, buildings, staircases, and small details that function as fragments of a personality. The buildings, with their defined and stable forms, generate a sense of visual calm amidst the multiplicity of elements they contain. The architectural spaces become a way of representing the organization of the mind, where the everyday and the imaginary coexist. Among the small elements, a figure appears smoking by a window, an intimate scene that introduces a moment of pause and contemplation of the outside world. The purple and orange-yellow tones represent different dimensions of identity, while the dark background, sprinkled with small stars, evokes a nocturnal and undefined space. The Artwork proposes a look into the interior of a person, understanding the mind as its own universe, formed by memories, experiences and small details that, together, build a way of being.
