  • Federico Tormo Monzó. Ink drawing. "Football Match". Valencia F.C. 1950s. Football. 22x16 cm. Hand-signed.

Federico Tormo Monzó. Ink drawing. "Football Match". Valencia F.C. 1950s. Football. 22 x 16 cm. Hand-signed. Excellent Valencian draftsman and caricaturist. Federico Tormo Monzó was born in Pinoso on April 15, 1890, and died in Valencia on September 12, 1971. He moved from his hometown to Valencia at the age of 17, where he settled and studied under Ricardo Verde. Although he had already won first prize for posters advertising the July Fair in 1927, and also received other awards in Granada, his first steps in Valencia were as an illustrator for the sports section of the newspaper "Las Provincias" between 1931 and 1935. He produced series of caricatures of renowned footballers and boxers, directors of Valencian clubs, journalists, and practitioners of other fashionable sports, such as greyhound racing. He stood out for his skill with the pencil when sketching sporting events, which were published regularly. He sometimes signed his drawings with the pseudonym "Motor," which appears in some of his caricatures. But he didn't limit himself to sports, as he also excelled in his drawings related to bullfighting, caricaturing bullfighters of the stature of Marcial Lalanda, Félix Rodríguez, Vicente Barrera, and Domingo Ortega. Figures from Valencian culture, such as musicians and writers, were also portrayed by Tormo Monzó in his distinctive style. After the Civil War, the artist continued drawing, alternating between caricature and painting, capturing the landscapes of the cities he visited, such as Granada, Bilbao, and Zaragoza, in addition to Valencia. He held numerous solo exhibitions throughout his life, both in Valencia and elsewhere in Spain, and several of his paintings are held in collections abroad, including one in Winston Churchill's private collection. The painter's style was followed by his only student, José Agustí García, who knew his Artwork and shared his studio for over 25 years.

  • Antonin Frantisek Sthelík. Ink drawing “Landscape with Fir Trees”. Hand-signed. 1967. 33x45 cm.

Antonin Frantisek Sthelík. Ink drawing "Landscape with Fir Trees". Hand-signed. 1967. 33 x 45 cm. Showing signs of age. Possibly a landscape of Italy. There is a damp line on the back. Antonín František Stehlík (March 11, 1921, Hluboké Maščvky – August 28, 1989, Znojmo) was a Czech painter and journalist. His son was the painter and sculptor Jan Rostislav Stehlík. Antonín František Stehlík was born in 1921 in Hluboké Maššvky near Znojmo. He attended primary school in Hluboké Maššvky from 1928 to 1935 and then began an apprenticeship, which he completed in 1938. That same year, he attempted to enroll in the gymnasium in Moravské Budšjovice, but due to the deteriorating situation in the republic, he was unable to get there. Antonín Stehlík's family then moved to Třebíń, where his father owned an advertising agency, and Antonín began Artworking there as an assistant. However, after the outbreak of World War II, Antonín Stehlík was drafted for forced labor in Austria, Germany, and later France. He did not return to Czechoslovakia until 1945, and that same year he moved to Znojmo, where he married Otilie Fišerová. Between 1946 and 1950, he studied painting privately with František Šindeláč, a primary school teacher in Moravian Budějovice. In 1945, like his father, he also began Artworking as a journalist. Through his journalism, he met the art theorist Prokop Toman, who recommended him for private painting lessons with Otakar Nejedlý. He began studying with him around 1952 and continued until Nejedlý's death in 1957. In the so-called Toman Society, he met Vojtěch Sedláček, who influenced Antonín Stehlík's drawing techniques. In 1952, he also became friends with Petr Bezruč, a friendship that lasted until Bezruč's death. During their friendship, Antonín Stehlík created a collection of 120 drawings entitled "Bezruč's Moravian Landscapes." In 1973, he received the Max Švabinský Medal. In the mid-1950s, he also began painting and drawing scenes from his childhood and youth. In the 1960s, he visited Italy, Slovakia, and Russia on several occasions, trips that influenced his later Artwork. From the mid-1970s onward, he began painting and drawing professionally, and also painting scenes of South Moravia and the city of Znojmo. In 1991, he received honorary citizenship of Hluboké Mašąvky.
