Autor: Firma ilegible. Título: Cartel taurino, Madrid, 1912. Descripción: Cartel anunciador de la corrida benéfica celebrada en 1912 en la plaza de toros de Madrid, con Manolete, Rodolfo Gaona, Antonio Fuentes y Vicente Pastor y la presencia de los reyes. Impreso sobre seda. Medidas sin marco 54x34 cm Medidas con marco 71x50,5 cm. A partir de 1840 se produce un importante cambio en el cartel taurino. El formato se hace alargado y en vertical, con una entrada tipográfica en la que se sustituyen las tradicionales fórmulas de la realeza para anotar únicamente en grandes mayúsculas: “Plaza de Toros de...” o “Toros de muerte”. En el último tercio del siglo se introduce la litografía y se realizan grandes tiradas a color. Es también en estos momentos cuando los primeros artistas del género comienzan a tomar conciencia de sí mismos y a firmar sus diseños para la cartelería taurina. A la vez, los dibujos o viñetas irán adquiriendo cada vez más importancia. A principios del siglo XX es ya posible decir que el género se ha configurado totalmente, a través de unas imágenes y unos tipos muy delimitados, pero de gran aceptación popular.
