Condition Excellent Jaume Genovart Llopis (Barcelona, 1941-1994), grandson of a linotypist and son of a bookseller, was raised in a world of writing and a passion for graphics, calligraphy and landscape, all of which are characteristic elements of his work. After starting Arts and Crafts and Economic Sciences, he abandoned them to dedicate himself to painting, in which he threw himself unconditionally. Self-taught, he began in plastic expression around 1963, and his painting and his unreal landscapes are easily recognizable by their gestures and color, as well as by the signs, letters and numbers that make up several of his compositions. Starting in 1972, his first exhibition in Barcelona, he regularly exhibited in prestigious galleries in Spain and Germany. Passionate about space and landscape, he went through a stage of cosmic painting, astronomical and spatial landscapes charged with aggressiveness and violence. He then began to collaborate regularly in the press and made covers for various publications and books. Towards the end of the seventies he began his most important stage in terms of exhibitions. He participated in numerous international exhibitions in Europe, America and Asia and, starting in 1980, Jaume Genovart approached a more classical landscape. It was then that writing reinforced its value and became the determining element of his work. Genovart's characteristic is his brilliant originality in the treatment of a technique as difficult as painting on printed paper (old documents, staves). He represented Spain at the São Paulo Biennial, in Rijeka, at the New Delhi Triennial and in Alexandria.
