Joaquim Asensio Mariné (Barcelona, May 8, 1890 – Barcelona, April 14, 1961). Self-taught painter. Still life and landscape painter in a post-impressionist style. He held exhibitions in Barcelona at the Pallarés Galleries in 1941, the Vilomara Gallery in 1943, the Casa del Libro in 1944 and 1949, the Rovira Gallery in 1945 and 1948, the Argos Gallery in 1950, and the Jaimes Gallery from 1952 to 1955. He participated in the Barcelona Fine Arts Exhibition in 1944. In Madrid, he exhibited at the Vilches Gallery in 1946, at the León Provincial Council in 1948, at the Van Riel Gallery in Buenos Aires in 1948, at the Marcel Centellas Gallery in Sabadell in 1950, and at the Dintel Gallery in Santander in 1955. After his death, several retrospective exhibitions have been held in Barcelona galleries, notably those of Laietana (1978), A. Cortina (1994), and Fernando Pinós (2007). A large-format Cubist composition featuring a grand piano, cello, violin, trumpet, French horn, and guitar, alongside scores by Beethoven and Chopin, on a checkered floor in white and gray. The artist breaks down the instruments into overlapping geometric planes of vibrant colors (ochres, golds, grays, and reds), in a pictorial homage to music and Synthetic Cubism.
