ARTArtwork DESCRIPTION: Signing is a piece belonging to The Signature series, where Lídia Vives explores the relationship between identity, vulnerability, and self-defense. Through self-portraiture, the artist reflects on the armor we adopt throughout life—not always physical, but just as heavy. The Artwork has been enhanced with a digital drawing created by the artist herself, in which a baroque armor of plant inspiration is superimposed on her body. This symbolic element coexists with cobalt blue floral tattoos and a small red heart under the eye, elements that create a dialogue between the ornamental and the emotional. The handwritten text in the upper corner reinforces the intimate nature of the image: “Do you remember when you put on the armor for the first time? I don’t.” As is often the case in her Artwork, Lídia combines visual language with personal narratives, addressing themes such as violence, resistance, social judgment, and empowerment. Signing speaks not only of protection but also of the toll it takes to wear that armor day after day. It is shipped well-protected with cardboard and bubble wrap. The package includes cotton gloves for handling and a postcard signed by the artist. ABOUT THE ARTIST: Lídia Vives (1991) is a photographer and visual artist based in Barcelona. Her Artwork has been published in magazines such as Vogue Italia and Esquire, and has been exhibited internationally in prestigious museums and galleries such as the Louvre (Paris) and the Saatchi Gallery (London). With a highly recognizable pictorial, symbolic, and narrative style, Lídia creates images full of color, emotion, and hidden details—her characteristic easter eggs—that invite close and profound observation. She has participated in several international contemporary art fairs, and her Artwork has been shown worldwide.
