Magnífico grabado calcográfico histórico sobre papel de época de gran gramaje, correspondiente a la Placa Nº 96 del célebre Atlas de la expedición francesa de Louis de Freycinet, "Voyage de découvertes aux terres australes", publicado en París circa 1824. La estampa fue dibujada originalmente por Marchais a partir de los bocetos tomados sobre el terreno durante la expedición, y grabada en plancha de cobre por Choulet. Muestra un paisaje de Australia (Nueva Holanda / Montañas Azules) con gran detalle topográfico y naturalista. Se aprecia perfectamente la huella del marco de la plancha de cobre. Conserva una excelente nitidez y contraste en la zona central iluminada. Presenta marcas evidentes de foxing (manchas de óxido/humedad por el paso del tiempo) concentradas principalmente en los amplios márgenes exteriores, además de un leve desgaste en la esquina inferior izquierda. Conserva los márgenes completos originales sin recortar. Una pieza histórica de gran valor cartográfico y documental.

The painter was awarded the National Prize for Plastic Arts by the Ministry of Culture in 1980, the National Prize for Visual Arts of Catalonia in 2003 and was an honorary academic of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando.
