Marc Camps Gandilló (Casserres, 1936 – Cunit, 2012) was a prominent Catalan painter whose Artwork is characterized by an Impressionist style with a profound influence of Vincent van Gogh, both in his use of color and the strength of his brushstrokes. The term "Retrat d'un poeta" (Portrait of a Poet) refers to the French artist Georges Rouault. (1871–1958) is often referred to as one of his Artworks where he explores the human figure with his characteristic expressionist style, marked by thick black outlines and intense colors reminiscent of medieval stained glass. The Mallorcan artist Marc Camps' admiration for Georges Rouault is a fundamental pillar in his artistic development and visual language. This connection is manifested primarily in the adoption of an aesthetic that prioritizes emotional intensity and robust formal structure. This Artwork is significant because it demonstrates Marc Camps' versatility and his ability to engage in dialogue with the great masters of European modernism. While his Greniers (Barns) series looks to Van Gogh, this "Portrait of a Poet" is a declaration of admiration for Rouault's spiritual expressionism. Georges Rouault (1871–1958) is often described as the "poet of art" for his unique ability to infuse a profound and compassionate spirituality into the rawest forms of expressionism. The title "poet of art" (or sometimes "Poet of the line") refers to how Rouault managed to make painting not just an image, but a form of "visual lyricism" imbued with spiritual meaning. "Homage" Series: Specific portraits, such as "Homage to Rouault," are more unique pieces within his oeuvre, and therefore, more valuable.
