Maria Girona Benet was one of the most prominent figures in 20th-century Catalan art. A painter, printmaker, and teacher, she was a co-founder of the Els Vuit group, a driving force behind Estampa Popular Catalana, and a co-founder of the EINA School, where she also taught. In 1998, she received the Creu de Sant Jordi from the Generalitat of Catalonia.
Trained by her uncle Rafael Benet and at the Tàrrega Academy in Barcelona, she developed a highly prestigious artistic career, exhibiting in Spain and various European cities. In 1967, she collaborated with the Catalan Tapestry School of Sant Cugat, where she created her only textile Artwork.
Her painting, characterized by its great poetic and chromatic sensitivity, features landscapes, gardens, flowers, still lifes, and interiors, placing her among the most representative artists of contemporary Catalan art. Her Artwork is part of important public and private collections.
