LA CHIMENEA DE LA LOCOMOTORA DE VAPOR Es la parte de una locomotora a través de la que sale el humo de la caldera. Los sistemas de escape de la locomotora de vapor habitualmente liberan el escape del cilindro a través de la chimenea para mejorar el tiro a través de la caldera. Están diseñadas para transportar el vapor de escape y el humo lejos de la línea de visión del maquinista, mientras que son lo suficientemente cortas como para permitir el paso bajo estructuras superiores como túneles o puentes. Algunas chimeneas incluían sistemas para evitar la emisión de chispas.La chimenea generalmente se ubicaba sobre la caja de humos situada en el extremo delantero de la locomotora, alejada de la cabina del maquinista y del fogón. Las primeras chimeneas de locomotoras eran típicamente lo suficientemente altas como para soportar la diferencia de densidad inducida por la temperatura a través de una caldera de tubo de fuego.1

    Alberto Rafols-Casamada (Barcelona, 1923 – 2009), was a poet and painter. Rafols-Casamada began his studies in architecture but abandoned them to dedicate himself fully to the visual arts, thanks to the support of his father, Albert Ràfols i Cullerés. The painter was awarded the National Prize for Plastic Arts by the Ministry of Culture in 1980, the National Prize for Visual Arts of Catalonia in 2003 and was an honorary academic of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando.
