MIRALLES, Josep Maria (Manresa, Barcelona, 1937). Sin título. Técnica mixta sobre cartón. Firmado en el ángulo inferior derecho. Medidas: 36,5 x 51 cm; 41 x 56,5 cm (paspartú). Artista de formación autodidacta, Josep Maria Miralles inició su carrera colaborando con “Selecciones Ilustradas”, en 1953, y también dibujando historietas para la editorial francesa Artima. A continuación vivirá años muy productivos, dibujando historias románticas para las revistas británicas “Valentine”, “Marilyn” y “Roxy”. Sin embargo, más interesado en la ilustración a color, empezó a alternar esta actividad con las historietas. Ya desde mediados de los sesenta dibujará cómics solo de forma ocasional, entre ellos el aparecido en la revista estadounidense “Vampirella” en 1977: “Un insulto a la ciencia”, con guión de Fernando Fernández, autor con el que ha compartido diversos trabajos. En la década de los ochenta dibujó algunas historias breves más, con guiones de Carlos Trillo, para la editorial Toutain. Como ilustrador, Miralles ha trabajado para editoriales de Estados Unidos (Dell Books, Ace Books), España (Afha, Plaza & Janés, Toray, Martínez Roca) y Francia (Hachette, Reader’s Digest). Asimismo, a lo largo de su carrera ha cultivado asimismo la pintura, y ha expuesto sus cuadros en varias ocasiones.
