"...Photographs deceive time, hanging it on a piece of cardboard where the soul is upside down," she said... Of Love and Shadows, Isabel Allende. At some point in our lives, we all feel melancholic or sad. These are normal, fleeting feelings that usually appear and disappear within a few days. The problem arises when these types of negative emotions linger over time, interfering with daily life and the performance of everyday activities. When this happens, the person can be considered to have entered a depressive state. In this series, I wanted to make visible what a person with this depression feels and, above all, to make one thing clear and positive: depression can be overcome, and once the storm has passed, one feels stronger and ready to fight whatever comes. We've probably heard phrases like this: "I don't feel like doing anything. Everything bores me. I can't concentrate, I can't read a book, and I'm bored with television. I just want to lie down. It's like I don't have the strength to do anything, no matter how small." It's difficult to describe depression to someone who has never experienced it. It's a common illness, but that doesn't mean we should downplay its importance, as it's a very serious condition that requires treatment to overcome. Slipping into depression is like being in a dark place from which you can't escape. It's like being locked in a room with no light, no windows, and no door. It's so dark that you can't even see your hands in front of your face, let alone find a way out. All kinds of emotions fluctuate: fear, despair, emptiness, numbness, shame, and an inability to recognize the joyful and happy person you used to be, and you lose the desire to take part in life. Nuria Espuis Moreira, born in 1967, lives and works in Catalonia, Spain. Black Clouds 2 (2022) – 30x45 cm - ArtPrint / Hahnemühle Photo Rag Baryta 315g / Signed / 1/30 Limited Edition
