Pablo Picasso. Dream and Lie of Franco, Plate I. Reproduction on paper of Plate I from the portfolio "Dream and Lie of Franco," published by SPADEM in 1975. Dimensions without frame: 43 x 32 cm. Artwork in good condition with signs of age. Dream and Lie of Franco is a series of etchings and a prose poem written by Pablo Picasso in 1937, during the Spanish Civil War. The handwritten title and the text below are part of a fierce satire and propaganda attack against General Francisco Franco. Picasso used the Artwork, full of surreal and grotesque imagery, to portray Franco as a monster and raise funds for the Republican cause. The piece is contemporary with and related to Guernica, demonstrating Picasso's profound political commitment against fascism.

    Alberto Rafols-Casamada (Barcelona, 1923 – 2009), was a poet and painter. Rafols-Casamada began his studies in architecture but abandoned them to dedicate himself fully to the visual arts, thanks to the support of his father, Albert Ràfols i Cullerés. The painter was awarded the National Prize for Plastic Arts by the Ministry of Culture in 1980, the National Prize for Visual Arts of Catalonia in 2003 and was an honorary academic of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando.
