Rosa Serra Puigvert. Pencil drawing. "Rut. Betulia". Hand-signed. 34 x 35 cm. Rosa Serra i Puigvert (Vich, 1944) is a Spanish sculptor. She belongs to the generation that marked a breakthrough in Olot sculpture. Her discovery of the three-dimensional figure led her to explore the work of Lluís Curós, her first teacher. In 1952, she moved to Olot, where she currently works and resides. In 1970, she entered Lluís Carbonell's academy, where she studied drawing and painting, and two years later she enrolled at the Olot School of Fine Arts, where she studied drawing, ceramics, and printmaking for three years. She held her first solo exhibition in Barcelona in 1972, and since 1973 has devoted herself to sculpture. In 1976, she received the Sculpture Prize at the Third Bilbao Biennial. In 1985, the International Olympic Committee commissioned a series of sculptures for the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games. She created sports-themed sculptures for the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games, and in 2000, Nike commissioned a statue of Tiger Woods for Oregon. She also designed the Olympic Suite at the IOC headquarters in Lausanne and several pieces located in Olympic Park in Seoul and at the Asian Olympic Committee in Kuwait. In 2008, she received the Cross of Sant Jordi from the Catalan government.
