Sergi Barnils is one of the Sant Cugat artists who, during the 1990s, gained recognition primarily in Italy and Germany. Barnils Artworks between Sant Cugat, Tossa de Mar, and Milan (Italy), where he has an open studio. Canals, Galería d’Art introduced him to the public in the early 1990s. His pictorial language is based on primitive roots and bold colors. His attraction to landscape in his early stages transformed into an abandonment of representation in order to develop a spatial synthesis. A dialogue between drawing, geometry, and symbolism, where the sources of our tradition, especially from the medieval world, can be observed. His Artworks are created with a patient and meticulous technique, layering transparencies, and using scraping and scratching. His Artwork is found in numerous museums and private collections in Germany, Italy, Austria, the Netherlands, and other countries, and he has held numerous exhibitions.
