Autor: Rafael Tur i Costa. Descripcion: Prueba de Artista enmarcada con firma manuscrita del autor en el ángulo inferior derecho. Fechado en 1971. Rafel Tur i Costa (Santa Eulària des Riu, illa d'Eivissa, 1927) és un pintor eivissenc. Costa va estudiar a l'Escola d'Arts i Oficis Artístics d'Eivissa, encara que la seva formació es pot qualificar de bàsicament autodidàctica. El 1955 va conèixer els integrants de la Hochschule Für Bildende Kunste de Berlín, ui es casà amb una d'elles, Anneliese Wit. Això el posà en contacte amb els plantejaments artístics d'avantguarda europea. Des del 1959 va mantenir contacte amb el Grupo Ibiza 59. La seva primera exposició individual va ser el 1962 a la Sala de Cultura de la Caixa de Pensions, d'Eivissa, on tornaria a exposar el 1963. En les seves primeres obres abstractes de la dècada dels seixanta apareix predominantment el color negre, que aviat va ser desterrat pel blanc i per altres d'intensa vibració, que anaven ocupant l'espai pictòric de manera característica i per sempre. Al començament dels anys setanta, l'obra de Tur es personalitzà per l'elecció del blanc com espai-color i dels traços de perfil informalista de colors purs i argent. A la seva obra es manifesta amb força la preocupació per les textures de la matèria. Apareixen collages en què els papers se superposen a la tela cercant la profunditat dels blancs, però també una reflexió sobre l'espai plàstic mateix. En aquesta dècada, precisament, quan la seva obra reflecteix un fort principi per racionalitzar l'espai seguint les formes geomètriques. Posteriorment va exposar a la galeria Carl van der Voort (Eivissa, 1970, 1972, 1974, 1976 i 1978), a les galeries Nova (Barcelona, 1971), Packhaus (Berlín 1973), Sala Pelaires (Palma,1975), Berdussán (Saragossa, 1976), Internacional (Madrid, 1976), Ponce (Ciutat de Mèxic, 1976) i René Metras (Barcelona, 1977). He showed an aptitude for drawing from a very young age, and in 1887, at the age of 10, he began Artworking in the studio of Domènec Soberano, and shortly afterward with the painter Aleix Clapés, who at that time had a drawing school in Reus. After moving to Barcelona, he painted landscapes, which he exhibited twice, but he specialized in pen and ink drawings. At the age of 23, he was hired by the Seguí publishing house to illustrate its unfinished encyclopedia, collaborating with Odón de Buen. He Artworked for other publishers, alternating drawing with oil painting. Around 1920, he began Artworking at the F.D.T. publishing house, founded by the Marist Brothers (which became Editorial Luis Vives in 1932). He lived somewhat apart from the artistic trends of his time, dedicating himself almost exclusively to editorial illustration. In his studio, he kept a very extensive graphic archive. Among other Artworks, he illustrated, in addition to various encyclopedias, *El Cielo* (The Sky), by the astronomer Comas i Solà; *Arte y monumentos* (Art and Monuments), with texts by J. Rodergas i Calmell; *Itinerario artístico: Cataluña* (Artistic Itinerary: Catalonia), with texts by Josep Francesc Ràfols; and 24 volumes of a collection from the Hernando publishing house in Madrid, entitled "La riqueza en la mano" (Wealth in Hand), which dealt with animal husbandry and agriculture. He signed most of his Artworks with the initials R.C. In his youth, he contributed to the Reus newspapers *Reus Artístich* and *L’Escut de Reus*. His paintings were exhibited in Reus and Barcelona, and in 1914 he won first prize for drawing in a competition organized by the "Associació catalanista de Gràcia". In 1940 he retired from professional activity. He died in Barcelona in 1952.
