Michelangelo: Drawings is an exclusive artist's book that showcases the Renaissance genius's career through the most important and complete collection of drawings and sketches held by the British Museum. Reflecting the purest spirit of the genius, the Artwork is presented in a sculptural case featuring David as its central figure: a symbol of Florence, a milestone in anatomical study, and an unmistakable sculpture. In this case, the figure appears to emerge liberated from the block of marble, just as the artist conceived his Artwork. Inside, it houses, on one side, the Art Book: a unique opportunity to access the soul of Michelangelo through 75 drawings from the British Museum's collection, reproduced in exquisite detail. Sketches for later Artworks, anatomical studies, or gifts for his loved ones: with each drawing, we discover a new secret of the artist. For its part, the Book of Studies brings together the reflections and analyses of great experts on the Artwork and figure of Michelangelo: Hugo Chapman, Simon Sainsbury curator of the Prints & Drawings department of the British Museum, Sarah Vowles, Smirnov Family curator of Italian and French drawings and prints, and Matthias Wivel, curator specializing in 16th century Italian paintings at the National Gallery in London.
