If you love art as much as we do, you probably use every spare moment to discover new artists and enjoy and learn by admiring their works. For this, there is nothing better than visiting one of the hundreds of museums and galleries that dot our geography.

In a previous post, we talked about 8 essential museums in Barcelona, although art in the Catalan capital is not exclusively limited to large museums, so today we want to present our top ten art galleries in Barcelona. Will you join us on this virtual tour?

Galería Peragón

The Galería Peragón is an independent gallery founded in 2009 by brothers Pep Peragón and Sergi Peragón, two art enthusiasts who decided to make their dream come true by creating a space in which to enjoy the most select modern and contemporary art without rush and without prejudice.

This artistic space aims to promote the work of Sergi Peragón, the gallery's main artist, as well as resident artists Eva Ricart Vilafranca; Rafael Cuartielles; Joan Escudé, Isabel Biete, and J. Coll Alzina.

In addition to being able to admire the work of resident artists, Galería Peragón also exhibits works by painters such as Antoni Tàpies, Joan Miró, Eduardo Chillida, Salvador Dalí or Jorge Castillo.

Galería Toni Tàpies

Lovers of matter painting will find in the Galería Toni Tàpies a place to enjoy the work of this emblematic Catalan painter.

Founded in 1994, Galería Toni Tàpies dedicates its activity to managing the artistic heritage of Antoni Tàpies, permanently exhibiting the matter painter's work through exhibitions and other shows dedicated to disseminating the artist's work and pictorial conception.

In the space, it is possible to admire paintings, engravings, graphic work, and artist's books by Antoni Tàpies, as well as pieces by other recognized painters such as Jeff Brouws, Susy Gómez, Edward Burtynsky, Michel de Broin, or Antonio Ortega.

Galería Marlborough Barcelona

Another artistic appointment in the streets of Barcelona takes place at Galería Marlborough Barcelona, the Catalan headquarters of the network of artistic spaces founded in 1946 in London by Frank Lloyd and Harry Fisher.

The Marlborough Galleries acquired great prestige in the mid-20th century for having pioneered the exhibition of works by German expressionist artists, holding important shows that presented the works of painters as relevant as Francis Bacon or Henry Moore.

Currently, the Marlborough network has exhibition spaces in New York, London, Tokyo, Rome, Florida, Santiago de Chile, Chelsea, Madrid, and Barcelona, the latter inaugurated in 2006, since which time it has participated in numerous shows in collaboration with other galleries, museums, and public and private organizations.

Its scope of action includes national and international artists, both established and emerging, to whom it grants great creative freedom, making it possible to observe a wide range of proposals in its shows, both in reference to styles and artistic media.

In addition, Marlborough Barcelona has an independent room dedicated to temporary exhibitions where it is possible to periodically visit solo or group shows by its artists, among whom we can mention names like Antoni Clavé or Manolo Valdés.

Galería Joan Gaspar

Inheriting the experience and name of the mythical Sala Gaspar, founded in 1909 and known for having promoted painters of the stature of Salvador Dalí, Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró, Antoni Clavé or Antoni Tàpies, the Galería Joan Gaspar was born in 1992 as a renewed commitment to avant-garde art, participating in the dissemination of the work of various national and international artists.

Among its exhibition collection, we find paintings, sculptures, engravings, photographs, and serigraphs by modern and contemporary artists such as the aforementioned Miró, Dalí, Tàpies or Picasso, as well as Eduardo Chillida, Andreu Alfaro, Claudi Casanovas, or Gaston-Louis Roux.

Galería Àngels Barcelona

Lovers of experimental art will find their place in the Barcelona streets in El Raval, just fifty meters from the Museum of Contemporary Art. We are referring to Galería Àngels Barcelona, a project that, since its foundation in 2007, seeks to make a critical approach to the artistic process and its languages, as a representative discourse of the social environment in which it is inscribed.

In the exhibition space, it is possible to see works by artists with recognized careers, such as Ion Fontcuberta, Pep Agut, Daniel Ortiz, or Esther Ferrer.

Galería Joan Prats

Founded in 1976, Galería Joan Prats has been a pioneer in the international contemporary art scene, participating since its inception in major exhibition fairs such as ARCO Madrid  or Art Basel.

Galería Joan Prats is dedicated to the dissemination and exploration of the work of its artists, among whom we highlight painters Joan Hernández Pijuan, Luis Gordillo, or Albert Ràfols-Casamada.

3 Punts Galería

3 Punts Galería was born in 1994 with the aim of promoting contemporary art in its multiple manifestations, publicizing its artists through periodic exhibitions, participation in art fairs, and collaboration with other cultural and artistic entities.

If you visit their facilities on Enric Granados street, you will have the opportunity to see, among others, the works of artists such as José Cobo, Erika Babatz, Paola de Grenet, Sito Mújica, or Juan Perdiguero.

Galería Balaguer

Since its foundation in 2004, Galería Balaguer has been dedicated to the promotion of contemporary art in its multiple manifestations, holding exhibitions of painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, video, and performing arts.

In recent years, its lines of action have been aimed at boosting the careers of young emerging talents, which is why it is consolidating itself as one of the reference breeding grounds in the Spanish contemporary art scene.

Among the artists who exhibit their creations at Galería Balaguer, we find names such as Alejandra Atarés, Víctor Jaenada, Dominica Sánchez, or Albert Gusi.

Galería Trama

Galería Trama opened its doors in 1991 with the aim of promoting contemporary art, attending to different styles and concepts.

Among its actions, we find participation in different national and international art fairs, as well as the regular organization of exhibitions and shows in collaboration with other Spanish and foreign galleries and cultural institutions, aimed at disseminating the work of a stable group of artists with recognized careers, among whom we find Lourdes Fisa, Rafael Joan, Regina Giménez, Gonzalo Sicre, Julio Vaquero, Anais Senli, Gonzalo Goytisolo, or Ana Marta Leite.

Galería ProjecteSD

We end this tour of our particular top ten Barcelona galleries at ProjecteSD, an exhibition space founded in 2003 under the premise of generating a dialogue between the works of established artists and young emerging talents from the art world.

The work of Galería ProjecteSD is aimed at confronting pieces of different styles, eras, and contexts in order to emphasize the intrinsic value of the works, beyond trends, fashions, and currents.

In addition to periodically holding exhibitions aimed at promoting the careers of its resident artists both nationally and internationally, ProjecteSD places great importance on the development of artist's books, having an editorial section.

Its particular hallmark, focused on the meticulous selection of its artists beyond market trends and on the solidity of its exhibition program, has earned it great prestige in the art world, having received various recognitions that praise its particular conception.

Among the artists whose works make up the exhibition collection of ProjecteSD, we find names such as Patricia Dauder, Iñaki Bonillas, Xabier Ribas, or Asier Mendizabal. 

Espacio Trafalgar

Finally, we suggest, for the first time in Barcelona, a major exhibition on the master of street art, Banksy.
The exhibition presents more than 100 works by the artist, life-size reproductions created by the artist between 2000 and 2018 in France, the United States, the United Kingdom, Israel, and Palestine. A unique immersive experience into Banksy's work that aims to immerse the visitor in an atmosphere rich in suggestive details and that open up multiple universal themes such as culture, politics, society, and many more.
